Yesterday we left the Netherlands.

When we left work for the last time we expected the last week in the Netherlands would be just relaxing and nice until the last day leaving the country. We couldn’t be more wrong. During the week we more or less tried to get people take over some of our old stuff for free or just a symbolic sum, packing our suitcases and throwing out the last garbage in our apartment. We did try to relax now and then during the week, but we were too stressed to be able to enjoy it.

The day before we left the Netherlands was just more or less panic. The owner of the house came by to inspect our apartment, so I can get my deposit back. For some reason the new owner was also there. He seemed to be in his mid thirties and had brought his mum with him. I’m very close with my mum, but that’s a bit too extreme, and even freaky, for my taste. Maybe he finally moved out from home, who knows.
They were looking around, not respecting that we hadn’t moved out yet and were still living there. He even had the nerve to say that we should clean a bit better. That didn’t sit right with me, so, I did my best at sweeping the floor, but I didn’t make an effort. You don’t tell someone to clean more, unless you’re mommas boy and a douche.
You also have to take into consideration that we are leaving the country, so we couldn’t just dump our things and come back to clean it.

We managed to almost give everything away, except our couch. It’s a small couch for two that you can fold out as a bed, that won’t give you much sleep. No one wanted it, so we had to put it out on the street. The funny thing is that when we got down the first stair it got jammed, kind of. The stairs in the Netherlands are very narrow. Being desperate and wanting to get it out I actually managed to get it on my back and carry it around the corner so we could finally get it out on the street for someone to pick it up for free.
I’m a lazy vegan geek, but still I manage to carry a couch for two on my back without any problems.

Also when we arrived at the airport yesterday we had together 20 kg overweight, but didn’t have to pay extra for it. Thank you SAS, you rock!

This is a few fun things I thought I would share with you guys about our travel from the Netherlands to Norway, from Norway to England and from England to Australia. I’ll try to keep you guys updated on our journey on my blog and especially on Twitter.
