Why I unfollowed you on Twitter.

Lately I’ve been “cleaning up” my followers and followings on Twitter. If you want to follow me, be a real person and not a bot; also, follow me because you like me tweets, not to hope I will follow you back. I’ve also unfollowed a few people I’ve been following for a while; which is the main idea behind this short article.

I mainly use Twitter to follow and connect with like-minded people. If your tweets don’t tickle my toes the right way, I’m sorry, I’ll unfollow you. Also, I don’t mind if you pitch your blog, as I do it myself, but constantly promoting your blog and/or company can be a bit boring and uninteresting.

At the moment I’m only following 59 persons, and probably only half of them contribute daily; still I find it hard to be able to keep track of all their tweets.
I read tweets as I read books. I want to absorb all the information, even if the information is maximum 140 characters. I also want to take part of what the tweeple are tweeting. So when I see people following 100+, I’m curious if they actually manage to read all their updates.

It’s probably because I’m an introvert. I don’t want to skim through information, I want to absorb it and understand it. It’s also my way showing respect to what they are posting, showing that what they post I really want to read, not just skim through and pretend I care.

With that said, don’t take it personally if I unfollow you. If I see a movie or read a book and don’t like it, the writer of that movie or book should not take it personally, because it wasn’t my cup of tea. We are all different and we have different interests.

I have to give you credit for even trying to keep up on Twitter. I’ve not been brave enough to even sign up, because even answering my email and responding to commenters from my blog about does in my spare time. Best wishes!

      Thanks for the comment. :)

As long as you just follow those who interest you and/or are close friends, you should be fine.
My main way of communicating online is email, blogging and Twitter. All those three, unlike IM (MSN, Gtalk, etc), don’t demand you to respond right now. When I get an email, I can choose when to respond based on how urgent it is and when I have time.
That’s also why I use RSS to read the news and blogs. I download all the latest updates during the day, and read them when I have time.

But, beware, if you try Twitter, you will be hooked. :)

I’m doing my best to keep up with everyone too and I’m not having a problem with it, then again I follow about 3 times less what you follow haha.. and sorry for making it hard to keep up since I tweet alot =p

But I feel exactly the same, I’m also hoping to meet like minded people, just as we met. One of the few reasons that’s keeping me from protecting my updates as well lol =p

Sometimes I also “try” people out but eventually I end up removing them as well yeah.
