Songbird shot down by a penguin?

Songbird Team writes:

After careful consideration, we’ve come to the painful conclusion that we should discontinue support for the Linux version of Songbird.

Songbird might have been a bit buggy and ate a lot of my memory, but it had a very minimalistic UI that fit perfectly in my Eee PC 10″ screen. As long as it played my music I was mostly happy and was not too fussed about features and plugins. Of course, when they released a new version with heaps of features for Windows and released a rather useless version for Linux later on it was not too shocking to read that they will stop supporting the Linux platform.

To me it looks like the Zenbe debacle all over again. A company makes a decision purely based on money  and forgets it might make a lot of users angry. You can kind of understand that some are really furious when they say they will uninstall Songbird from all their computers that run Linux, MacOS X and Windows; as many users used Songbird because you had a familiar piece of software on all three platforms, which is how this might hurt Songbird more than they can anticipate.

I am one of those who have chosen to uninstall Songbird as a slacktivist protest. I am rather lucky to have found a music player that I can replace Songbird with; which is Rhythmbox.
The irony is that it is more stable, it has more features and makes a much lighter footprint on my system. I am actually using it now and truly enjoying it a lot.

Songbird will be missed, but there is some chatter in the community that Songbird for Linux will be picked up by the community.
