If you hate it so much, why are you still using it?

If you disagree with how a company does
business or how they are treating their
customers or even employers I always
encourage people to speak up and
take action, to a certain point.

The dangers of speaking up is not that it can have consequences for you, but it can lead to useless complaining that helps no one at all. If you are going to speak up you need to have your facts straight and know that what you are speaking up against is actually an issue.

Down the line you must take action. Just saying something is not right, according to you, will make you part of the noise from many others who just moan and whine about everything without doing anything at all to make a difference.

I have personally been witness to when companies have told customers to never use their product again, because all they did was complain about a non-issue.
Also keep in mind, by going online you might end up with two negative outcomes.

  1. You might end up looking like a fool and not be taken seriously.
  2. You most likely will be giving company X free advertising.
(I have actually found new software etc just because someone has complained about it)

Most of the time, talking about how good a competitor is, is actually more effective. Instead of informing your readers about a certain company you hate, you will instead be informing them about a company you prefer and not mentioning the company you are unhappy with.
It is of course a bit difficult to not mention a company you  are unhappy with, but when you do, try to do it right.

I have hard time taking people who constantly complain about a company, but happily still use it. To me that is not just being a hypocrite, but you are also contradicting yourself.

It seems very popular to do this online at the moment. Complain like there is no tomorrow about why you should not use company Y or gadget X, but they forget to tell you what you should consider instead. Or even better, they rarely have any solutions to the problem. To me it seems that all they want to do is complain.

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem; and if you are just complaining, you are part of the problem.

    Can’t be truer than true.

      Thanks!

It is of course not easy to avoid a company you dislike, but at least focus on the ratio you are mentioning good-company vs. evil-company.
