Opinions, facts and insanity.
It is both kind of fascinating and disturbing at the same time that most blogs and news sites, that allow the public to comment on their articles, have at least one troll or “misunderstood” individual. It is also mind-boggling how that person, or persons, seem to always think their reasoning and logic is absolutely flawless; and those who dare to question them or speak up against them are always accused of either being rude or wrong, sometimes both.
It seems that .random[oid] has again become blessed by this kind of person; and it is the same person as last time. And again an unbiased third-party has weighed in their view that this person is obviously ‘grudge-trolling’ me.
I am not sure what I have done to this person to deserve this or, as I said last time this happened, something is lost in translation. I doubt it is the latter, as the way it is written it would even be considered rude in Norwegian.
As I, again, saw no other option to threaten to ban this person I was of course accused of being a hypocrite when it comes to free speech. This is a classical accusation if you tell someone to stop being a nuisance and start making sense; and play nice with everyone else.
The line between free speech and idiotic speech is very thin and random. At some point you have to draw a line and at one point someone needs to be allowed to say ‘enough is enough’!
When I “ban” people on my blog I just see to it their comments needs approval each time they post something. So far I have never deleted a comment, unless it was obvious spam; and this is the only person that has been “banned”.
Free speech is about bringing something valuable to the table. If you bring feces to a dinner, don’t be surprised that someone will tell you to leave and never come back. Free speech is also about being allowed to be offended and reacting to that.
I understand that people might react to what I write and say, and I am fine with that, but each time when I question certain people back they seem to get completely flabbergasted that I dare to do so; as if they automatically expect to have the last word and I am breaching some code of ethics by not letting them have that.
It is also good to know the differrence between opinions and facts before you start lecturing other people about it.
Opinion: a personal view, attitude, or appraisal.
Fact: a truth known by actual experience or observation; something known to be true.
As an example; that I prefer chocolate soy milk over strawberry soy milk is my opinion, but that the chocolate soy milk contains chocolate is a fact.
And calling me insane is actually redundant. Everyone knows I am a doctor who has gone completely bonkers in his old days of various travels.
Also, I am a critic of everything, nothing is sacred to me; which is why I am the Devil’s advocate.
