Ramblings from the cave.

I think it is safe to say, while throwing salt over my right shoulder and knocking on wood, that the cold I caught over a week ago is being defeated. It was a nasty one. I am not a big fan of taking cold medicine, but this time I caved in. Mind you, it did not cure my cold, it just made it more bearable.
Thanks to codeine.

During my time being more or less like a zombie, thanks to that lovely cold, I spent most of my time in the cave. Yes, I have manged to conquer a spot in the study! Veni, vidi, vici!
As the cold turned me into a zombie it had to major negative outcomes.
1. I am not looking desperate for a new Linux distro; so desperately I am considering getting a Mac instead.
2. My internal clock is completely messed up; more than usual.

Regarding #2 I can try to make an effort to go to bed earlier next week, but that is of course easier written than executed.

When it comes to #1 I am again frustrated with Linux. Mind you, I have almost used Linux for a decade now, so I know how it works; which annoys me a lot. It still gives me a feeling of being incomplete and for from ready for the desktop and the mainstream user.
Sure, most major versions installed on the right hardware with a default setup it will probably work; but sometimes that default install is extremely bloated, and the slightest tweak will just make it into a complete mess.

I like the freedom I have with Linux, but all I want is a computer system that is not bloated and works out-of-the-box. As of now it seems I have to choose from something minimal configured by someone who has no feeling of design or a system that is created by a design God who thinks it is very good to include almost all types of software.

With MacOS X I felt a bit limited, but everything just worked perfectly like it should.
I have not time or interest anymore to sit hunched over my computer whole day to find a solution to why a “stable” release has chosen to install a piece of software with a known bug.

Next week I will hopefully be posting my regular daily article from monday to Friday.
