I am a doctor!

As some of you might have noticed, I am now a doctor. And no, I am not a medical doctor, which is and should be the correct term. To be precise, I am ‘Doctor of the Universe’.
I received my doctorate by taking a course and later a test created by Universal Life Church.

It is probably obvious that I enjoy the works and writing style, Gonzo journalism, by Hunter S. Thompson. When I learned he had received his doctorate from ULC I decided I should do it too. It is also my way of showing the middle finger to those who use their title (Dr, Ph.D, etc) to make themselves think they are better than everyone else and that they know more than everyone else.
Your title means nothing if you add nothing to your field.

I can only assume that most people in academia is pulling their hair out in lumps and wants to scream at me ‘that I am not a real doctor’.
Before you do that, have you ever taken the time to find out what the title, doctor, really means?

Doctor (title)
(gen.: doctoris) which means teacher. The word is originally an agentive noun of the verb docēre (‘to teach’).

As you can see, it is Latin for teacher. Which means I have the full right to actually use this title, kind of, as ULC sees me fully capable of teaching others about what I was tought by them. You would of course think that those who are part of the academia would know and understand that, but some are so self-obsessed that if it were up to them they would be the only one’s that should be allowed the title ‘doctor’.
So before you tell me that I am not allowed to use the title, keep in mind that I have been deemed knowledgable enough to teach you what I have been tought.

Even if I still consider myself as an apatheist, I did find the course very interesting. The course did not convert me, but at least now I know that Jesus is the antichrist, which I will gladly preach.

If you want to debate religion, you have to know about it; you can’t just dismiss it, you should know why you dismiss it.
Kind of when you as a kid claimed you did not like peas, but the problem was that you have never had peas. You have to taste it first to not only know why you don’t like something, but also understand why you don’t like it.

I also did it because we often take things too serious in life. Just because you are 40 years old doesn’t change the fact that when you were five years old you enjoyed rolling around in mud. We just stop doing it because we are tought that we are too old for it.
I always wanted to be a doctor, and now I am.

Hunter S. Thompson’s doctorate was only from ULC too, but I personally feel he truly had the full right to use it as he did. He is not only the creator of gonzo journalism, but is the true and only teacher (doctor) of gonzo.
