Lazy lounge lizard

When I got out of bed today I decided to do absolutely nothing. Just float around the apartment. Be completely useless and waste some precious air. I needed it. Lately I’ve been working on a few articles for the Westender. Very chuffed seeing my portfolio grow.

It wasn’t planned that I would sit on my arse playing San Andreas today. Or browsing through random web sites. Reading boring news “articles” while laughing at the armchair philosophers. What a sad bunch they are. Must be annoying to have all the answers to this world’s problems, but no one seems to take them serious. Wonder why…

I had actually planned to write a bit about the conference I went to last night, but apparently I needed a day off from planned writing. Because I don’t believe in the idea that, if you have writer’s block, you should write. If you are out running and starting to feel lactic acid build up in your muscles; do you slow down, take a break or do you keep on until your body crashes?

You brain is like a muscle. If it’s tired, it’s tired. Of course, you should give a go, see if you can continue or start running slowly. But if you still can’t, don’t. Just don’t do it.

We are different, so what works for you might not work for me. But I know, from my experience, is that I can not force creativity. Well… Not entirely true. I can force myself to write, but I’m honest enough to admit that, when I do, it usually ends up being a pile of dog shit.

Go for a walk. Read a book. Go on a bender. Whatever works for you. That tiny break can have great impact on your creativity. I rather take one day off and work really hard the next day, than forcing myself to write for two days without rest.

Relax.
What are you afraid of?
