Den sista uppesittarnatten

This has been my last day of freedom. Tomorrow I’ll be back in class, pretending to take notes while doodling. Getting up early and trying to be in bed before 10 pm — instead I’m up till midnight.
Re-installed my tiny 701 Eee PC. Giving openSUSE Tumbleweed (their rolling release) a go. So far it is pretty awesome! Fedora 15 might be the last version of Fedora I ever use. But my time with openSUSE might also be short.
All in all, I think it’s safe to say this is a process that has gone on for at least six months. Maybe longer. The thing is, after being a geek for so many years, I now know what software I want — and what I don’t need. I’m done playing, tinkering with operating systems. All I want is something that works without hassle.
I’m sorry if I disappoint some of my readers, but when I can afford it, I’m joining the Cult of Mac again.
If I could afford it now, I think I would equip myself with an 11″ Macbook Air and an iPad 2 — and an Olympus PEN camera.
As a student I write heaps of essays; when I’m working as a freelance journalist I write heaps of stories. My two main tasks when working on a computer are reading/research and writing. I just need an operating system that can be easily re-installed in a blink of an eye or easily fixed with simple software tools. iWrite — that’s what I do.
And I’m sick of lagging behind in software and games.
Criticise me all you want. Because I know I have criticised Appel a lot, but I would be a hypocrite if I said their products are shit. That I criticise Apple and still want their products only shows I’m not biased. I also trust Apple heaps more than Google.
Tomorrow all hell breaks loose.
Hell has no fury like Dr. W when he has to get up before 10 am in the morning.
