As you walk down Gladestone Rd. from Highgate Hill towards Southbank, in Brisbane, you are bound to walk past LUCKY DUCK ESPRESSO. A nice little cafe with a lot of character and soul. Outside you will see tiny tables surrounded by round funny looking white plastic chairs, begging you to sit down and relax with a nice cup of coffee and avocado on a slice of toasted sourdough bread. While you are having your brunch you can enjoy the artwork painted directly on the walls and the ever changing mini art exhibition.

LUCKY DUCK ESPRESSO opened in August 2009 by Justine, who is the owner, and Emma, who works most days serving the best soy lattes on Highgate Hill. That spot has been a cafe for the last five years and was always Justine’s favourite place. When the previous owner decided to sell the cafe, Justine decided she had to keep this unique place alive and breath new life into it. By mixing their passion for good coffee, food and art, they have brought this small part of Highgate Hill to life again.

To keep things interesting and unique LUCKY DUCK ESPRESSO hosted their second PAINT OFF on Sunday 12th of September with some local and international artists to re-decorate the walls of the cafe, both inside and outside. The event started out at 3 pm and went on for several hours.
Some of the artists that attended the event was: Shaun Campbell, Donnie Danger, Ben Reeves, Sarah Sculley, Kalin Thompson, Ben Werner, Angus Whelan, Shida and more.

While the artists were painting, LUCKY DUCK ESPRESSO had live music playing outside. You could sit down or just hang around watching the artwork unfold freely on the walls by the artits. Going from simple odd looking sketches to works of art. It was truly an event that fits with the LUCKY DUCK ESPRESSO vibe. You will notice that this is not just a cafe that has artwork from excellent artists on display, LUCKY DUCK ESPRESSO is a lifestyle, a lifestyle you want to be part of.

When asked, Justine told me that this was yet another successful PAINT OFF and definitely not the last one LUCKY DUCK ESPRESSO will host. So come on down to the LUCKY DUCK ESPRESSO and enjoy the artwork while having a cup of coffee, because who knows how long it will be here until next the PAINT OFF kicks off again?
