Sprinkl sprinkl little designer

As I was fighting through rush hour traffic in the CBD to get to New Farm I started to wonder if it was worth it. Had I signed up for something that was a desperate attempt to promote a media company or was this a genuine attempt to create the best meet and greet event for creative minds in Brisbane?

Climbing the stairs in the Salt House, on the corner of Brunswick St and Merthyr Rd, I suddenly got the feeling I was at a nightclub. You could hear the muted bass drum thumping, queuing to get in and the lighting was dim with randomly placed colourful lamps. Almost like a VIP club for creative people.

I had a quick chat with one of the organisers of the Sprinkl event, Wick, and he described the Salt House as a creative community space that focuses on grassroot designers. There are web designers, graphic artists, photographers, etc at the Salt House. If you need something designed, they can do it for you. This is also a place that embraces individuality as you don’t need to rockup in the most expensive suit to impress people. ‘Come as you are’, as Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) sang.

Sprinkl is an event for creative people to meetup and network in a friendly and creative environment. If you are looking to meet other creative people like yourself or need freelancers for a project, this is the place to come to. It is also the second Sprinkl event and they are already planning a third event which will be held this summer.

To shake things up a bit they had a design competition between two designers. They were given a very short brief regarding what they were designing and had one hour to complete the task. They projected their screens on the wall so you could follow how they work and see the creativeness unfold freely. Watching that was an amazing experience.

Did I regret fighting through rush hour traffic so I could attend the Sprinkl event? Not at all! It was well worth going there to have a chat with other creative people and hearing how passionate they also are about what they do. This event is here to stay.
